TPCS Robotics Team Places First

Led by a stellar team of high school students, parents and coaches, our middle school lego robotics team, The Thunder Chickens, won 1st Place in Project Design in the Ventura County Lego robotics competition, advancing them to the First Lego League Los Angeles Regional Competition.

This year's theme for the First Lego League is "Into Orbit." Competing teams were challenged to answer the project question of how to improve long term space travel for astronauts. The TPCS students developed the idea of how to use algae as a renewable resource for oxygen, food and maybe even fuel. Their research involved talking to experts in the field, including a JPL scientist who worked on the space shuttle, growing algae, and creating a presentation to show what they learned. The students also worked hard on the robot challenge in which the kids are required to build and program a robot to complete challenges autonomously on a mat designed by First Lego League.

The Thunder Chickens were one of only four teams chosen to represent Ventura County at the Regional championships at La Canada High School in December.
